Our last meeting was held on October 27th at Lorraine’s ‘new’ home.  We discussed Not for Ourselves Alone by Ken Burns, which was a biography of Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony and their lifelong struggle to secure the vote for women in America.  The discussion was lively and educational, with Lorraine supplementing the conversation with historical details gleaned from her studies at Sacramento State.  The food was delicious, including fruits and vegetables (a Herbon first, apparently) and even Halloween candy, despite Lorraine’s alleged Halloween humbugism.  We talked, laughed and snacked until late in the evening and came away with our next selection:  The Handmaid’s Tale, by Margaret Atwood.  Our next meeting will take place on the Friday before Thanksgiving at Anita’s home and promises to be an extension and continuation of the conversation of women’s rights begun by Lorraine’s book selection this month.
